Teddy (ID#60548) is a medium size adult male. We think he is a shepherd chow mix but his breeds are just a guess. He is, however, one handsome boy. He has a beautiful fluffy tail and soft fur. Teddy came in as a stray. Nervous when he first arrived at the shelter, he has really come out of his shell and has decided the people there are friends. He is affectionate and social now. Teddy is making a good start with his training. He just graduated from a 6 week, on-leash obedience class. He did fantastic! Our behaviorist recommends a home with children over 12 years old and continuing with the behaviors learned in the classes. Teddy is about 2-3 years old and will be neutered before leaving the shelter. Teddy is easy to walk and we think he would make a great family pet. How can you resist that very cute face?

Liza/Brandy (ID#59810) is a medium size, brown pit bull terrier who came to us when her owner went into the hospital. Liza/Brandy has a great personality - she is willing to please and responds well to training. She had no handling or guarding issues during her behavioral evaluation. She does have a bit of a prey drive and is very excited by movement. She loves to grab the leash, but is willing to be redirected to a toy. Liza/Brandy will need toys, training and plenty of exercise in her new home. She would do best in a home with no toddlers or other pets. From one of our volunteers: "We sometimes call her "Miss Piggy" because she makes a very funny noise when she sniffs around. She is so comical and sweet. Liza/Brandy sometimes gets distracted with some of the dogs she meets at the outside dog run. However, she responds very well and redirects her attention towards other things (i.e. toys, people, etc.) when being told to stop. She would do great in obedience training and should be able to follow her human leader well as long as her humans can provide the proper guidance/leadership."

Samantha (ID#59579) is a sweet girl. She is a medium sized, adult female cat. She is about 4 years old. Samantha is a calm and loving girl who would prefer to be an only cat so she can be spoiled rotten. Samantha is up to date with shots and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Samantha has been spayed and is ready for her new forever home. Can you help this sweet girl?

Sugar (ID#60557) is a friendly 1-2 year old pit mix that came in as a stray. She responds well to strangers, wags her tail a lot and loves belly rubs. She is fine with being handled and hasn't shown any signs of possessiveness. Sugar is playful and jumpy and a little mouthy, but gently so, so she is probably too excitable for a home with small children, but we think she'd do fine with older ones. Sugar will be spayed before leaving the shelter. Several of the volunteers have been working with Sugar on her heeling and sitting. She is a quick learner and is willing to please. After some exercise in the outside pens, we get to work. She is really doing well. Her new owner should continue with this training. She has come a long way in a short amount of time. Sugar is a sweet dog who, with lots of exercise and love, will make a great pet. She has the softest eyes!!

Dusty (ID#60821) is a senior shepherd/husky mix. We're only guessing at the breeds in this stray with very cute ears. Dusty is a nice, gentle, calm older dog. He will whine for attention and enjoys it when you talk to him. He's uncomfortable with his tail being touched or his mouth being opened and will pull away, so we think he'd do best in a calm home with no young children. Dusty would like to spend his silver years in a home; not in a shelter. Can that home be yours? Tootsie (ID#61813) This stray beagle behaves well in her kennel and on-leash. She enjoys human company and likes to explore with her nose - typical for a beagle. Tootsie gets scared and uncomfortable when startled or around rowdy people, so we think she'd do best in a calm household. Tootsie is a sweet, gentle lady and she seems fine with other similar dogs. She will be spayed before leaving the shelter. The Bergen County Animal Shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ. The phone number is 201-229-4600. Hours for adoption are 1:00 to 5:00 seven days a week. Thursday we are open from 1:00 to 7:30. Previous pets still available, click on the page links below
