The Bergen County Animal Shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ.  The phone number is 201-229-4600.  Hours for adoption are 1:00 to 5:00 seven days a week.  Thursday we are open from 1:00 to 7:30.

Jacob (ID#60158) is a beautiful, cream colored Jindo/Husky mix. He came in as a stray. He is about 8 years old, behaves well in his kennel and will potty as soon as you take him outdoors. Jacob walks nicely on a leash and seems calm and mellow. He is always quiet in his kennel. A little nervous with new people, he warms up once he is secure with you and his sweet and gentle disposition shines through.

He can be possessive with food and treats, so he will need some work in this area. Jacob would do best in a quiet, adult home with an experienced dog owner who knows how to handle his limitations. Jacob has become one of the volunteer favorites and we are anxious for him to find his new forever home. Can you resist that cute face?

Marcus (ID#57891) is a special needs boy who needs our help. He is blind in one eye. He is a calm, gentle adult Chow mix who warms up slowly to strangers. Since he is blind in one eye, he should be approached slowly at first. He may react if startled and can't see hands coming at him on that blind side. He responds well to gentle handling and has made friends with several of the staff and volunteers and was very playful when introduced to a volunteer’s female dog.

He is friendly and very interested in most of the dogs and seems to want to play with them. Marcus “begs” for a treat and takes it politely from your hand and also knows “sit”, “down” and “paw” and he rolls over for tummy rubs. He also "begs" when you approach his cage to put his leash on. He has not shown any guarding issues at the shelter, though he may have potential to guard his house and owner once he bonds.

We think he'll bond well with a new owner, but may always be nervous with strangers. We have noticed that if taken out often enough, Marcus keeps his cage clean and relieves himself outside. Can you help Marcus find the special home he needs?

Dustin (ID#59737) is a Labrador Retriever mix that came in as a stray. He weighs 56 pounds and is about 1-2 years old. This friendly guy loves attention and wags his tail all the time. He's not the dog for a family with a lot of breakable knick-knacks on the coffee table! Dustin did fine with handling during his behavior evaluation, except that he pulls away when you try to hug or restrain him.

He is energetic and playful and will jump up and pull on the leash, so obedience training is recommended. Dustin will be neutered before leaving the shelter. From one of our volunteers: "Dustin is walking much better on the leash. He loves to play fetch; will retrieve the ball and drop it for me to throw it again. When is he not playing with the tennis ball, he is at my side for petting. If I stop, he pushes my hand to pet him again. And that tail of his never stops wagging! He will make a great family pet."

Wionna (ID#59293) is a Pit Bull Terrier mix who came in as a stray. While she pulls on a leash, she loves to go outside and will potty outdoors. She keeps her kennel clean if taken out often enough. She is outgoing with humans and loves to meet people. Wionna is OK with some dogs, she does not do well with others.

Wionna hasn't shown any fear at anything we've tried and was relaxed and enjoying the handling tests during her evaluation. We think she'd do fine with older children, but is too active for a home with youngsters. Wionna will be spayed before leaving the shelter. If you are looking for a great jogging partner, Wionna is the girl for you!

Ray Charles (ID#60107) is a very special senior cat. He was picked up by animal control in a trap. This wonderful cat has not only been a complete love since he came to the shelter, but we believe he is blind. Ray Charles is one of our senior cats that seems to get around real good once he knows the room. He is looking for an extra special home that can SEE all he has to offer.
