The Bergen County Animal Shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ.  The phone number is 201-229-4600.  Hours for adoption are 1:00 to 5:00 seven days a week.  Thursday we are open from 1:00 to 7:30.

Dasha (ID#58356) is a young, small torbie cat. She came from a house with several cats, so we think Dasha will do best in a home with other feline companions. Dasha is playful and she loves to play with catnip toys. Dasha is up to date with shots and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV.

Rocky (ID#60152) is an 8 year old retriever mix who came to the shelter when his owner moved into a condo. She told us Rocky is housebroken and OK with older children. We have found Rocky to be a calm dog with good kennel behavior. He tries to keep his kennel clean and will wait nicely for you to take him out for a walk. Rocky really enjoys being pet and talked to and will follow you around wagging his tail. He pulls away when you try to restrain him, but doesn't show aggression or possessiveness. Rock is very easy to walk and really enjoys human attention. Rocky is neutered and up-to-date with routine shots. Can you help this senior boy find his forever home?

Tyson (ID#59328) is a brindle male terrier mix, about one year old.
Tyson was very nervous when he arrived at the shelter and he seems to be a quiet, shy dog that takes a while to get used to new people. Now that he is comfortable here, he has blossomed and knows the staff and volunteers are his friends. Positive reinforcement training should help his self-confidence. Tyson needs an adult home willing to work with him.

From one of our volunteers: "Tyson has been taking an obedience training course with one of our volunteers. He is making good progress! However, from time to time, he still gets unsure of what he needs to do or what we are asking him to do. He needs a lot of encouragement and positive reinforcement to learn new commands and to be secure and confident. He is food motivated, so using his favorite treats might make him more comfortable with training. He lights up when we scratch all over his body."

Jada (ID#58760) is a medium size pit bull terrier. She came to the shelter when her owner moved into an apartment that would not allow dogs. One month after having puppies, Jada was relinquished to the shelter. Jada is very intense, but very friendly. She likes attention and is very sweet. Jada is fine with being handled, but has some issues with food. She loves to play but is a bit possessive with toys, so she would not be appropriate for a home with small children.

Jada is a great pit and will make a great addition to any family willing to put some work into her. Jada will be spayed before leaving the shelter. From one of our volunteers: "Jada loves to chase a tennis ball and is very fast when she chases it. She will bring the ball back and after some coaxing, will drop it, sit and wait for me to throw it again. She is full of energy and will need lots of exercise. "

Nala (ID#60065) is a Labrador Retriever, Shepherd mix. She came to us when her owner passed away. She is 4-5 years old and the person who brought her to the shelter told us she was housebroken. At the shelter, Nala has been nervous of new people, but warms up quickly. Once she's comfortable with you, she gives kisses and enjoys attention.

Nala may be wary of strangers coming into her new home, so an adopter will need to work on introducing her while on leash and with plenty of treats for positive reinforcement. Nala is very easy to walk and loves to sit by your side for lots of petting. She thinks she is a lap dog and will try to climb on your lap to give kisses.

Thunder (ID#60484) is a large, young, handsome German Shepherd. He came in as a stray with an injured paw. He is gentle and well-behaved, very polite and sweet. He was a little uncomfortable about having his tail touched, but OK otherwise with his behavioral evaluation.

Thunder is very focused and eager to please, so we expect he will respond very well to training. Thunder is being treated for his injury and will be neutered before leaving the shelter. Thunder will need lots of exercise and he is very willing to please. Can you offer your home to Thunder?
